Can anybody tell me the difference between Goodman heat pump system vs. Trane heat pump system? I am in the process of upgrading my heat pump system. Goodman is less expensive (by $800 to $1000)... but is Trane worth the extra cost? I'll be installing 14SEER system. Goodman dealer tells me Trane is bad because it is made of aluminum and Goodman is made of Copper. However, Trane dealer tells me Goodman is a "garbage" and it will break down lot faster. Anybody have opinion?
$10,000 for a Trane heat pump? Is $10,000 a good estimate for the installation of a Trane XL19i(16 seer) split heat pump and air handler and the installation of an additional return? It's a 4 ton.
How much is a Trane XL 1200 Weathertron Heat Pump worth? My Trane is 13 yrs old. My serviceman stated the heat pump (outside unit) itself is in great condition but the inside furnace is going bad. We have also added on to our home and need a larger ton unit. Can I sell the heat pump (3 ton) to someone for parts or something and if so how much would it be worth? Is there a website where I can find this information? Thank you for your help in advance!
I have had a bid on two heat pump systems, Trane and American standard (same systems)witch oneis better? I have a three ton system now, but it doesn't keep the house cool, on a day of 106 deg.the house well only be 85 deg. and it well run with out stoping all day and half the night. the Trane man and the American standard man said with 3.5 ton variable speed air handlers and a 15 seer out side unit ,it would heat and cool the house faster and better, and cheaper pg&e bills. witch of these units are the better? I think they are bouth made at the same factory. The bids are cheaper for the American standard than the Trane, for the same work to be done, witch is the better deal? My house is about 1950sf. well 3.5 ton unit do. . The system in there now is 17 years old,and is about seer 6 or7.
How do I get my Trane heat pump to switch automatically from heat pump to propane backup? I have a XB 13 Trane heat pump mod. 2TW. I live in northeast Oklahoma. The temperatures at night often fall below 30 degrees and rise during the day above 40 degrees. The company that installed it told me that I needed to manually switch between emergence heat(propane backup) at night to normal heat setting during the day. My old heat pumps changed automatically from natural gas backup to heat pump at about 34 degrees. I am sure there is an external thermostat or some other device that switches between the two heat settings automatically. Can someone help me?
Is my quote for a Trane heat pump too high? Hello, I need to know if the quote we received for a heat pump and air handler is too high. We live in a 3-story home in California, which is about 1780 square feet. According to the HVAC guy, we do not have sufficient venting in our new house house (thanks to our nightmare of a contractor that we used to build our house) so he would not recommend anything higher than a 2.5 ton unit, unless we figure out how to add more vents. Long story short, he quoted us $7000 for a Trane 410-A air handler (2.5 ton) and a Trane xl 15i heat pump 15 seer. - all parts and labor included (including the digital thermostat). Does this sound too high for my area, or is this an average quote for the size/model that we would be getting? Another HVAC guy quoted us $8,700 for a Trane XV 90 furnace and Trane xl 15i A/C (I believe he was thinking of a 3.5 ton unit - and he made no mention of us not having sufficient ducting, so I'm not sure if he was just trying to sell us a bigger unit for nothing). Please help as we need to make up our minds ASAP to pass final inspection.
How would a cold snap cut power to a home HVAC (Trane Heat Pump) system? We woke this morning without heat. There is no power to the entire central air, heat pump, HVAC system. There is no power to wall thermostat and no power at Trane heat pump. I've tested all of the connections with a DMM (0v), flipped/reset the breaker, and replaced the fuses. So could the breaker be bad (from a cold snap)? I'm going to test it next. Also, could I just reset the air handler (would that have any effect)? Thanks for the answer. I trouble shot the system until I went under the house and found the fuse box attached to the air handler. One of the cartridge fuses was blown, I replaced them, now it's working again.
Why is My Heat Pump Not Cooling? I have a Trane Heat Pump. It has not been heating well lately and now since it is getting warmer, I am unable to cool my house. The termostat is on 80 degrees but my house thermometer is showing 82 and will not go below that. I am going to have to open the windows in order to get some air in here. My unit is 16 years old. Could it be worn out or could it be something less expensive like a new themostat or freon? Please, somebody help me before I suffocate. Thank you for your time.
Cost of a Trane heat pump for a 1500 square feet house? I have just set up an appt. for a salesman from trane for next week. If I buy this unit I could get a Home Depot gift card for up to 1200 dollars. Then it occurs to me what is the cost of this unit if they are giving me a gift card up to 1200 dollars? I will be getting the inside, and outside unit replaced, I will be specifying to install new line from the inside to the outside unit. We have a freon leak in the system, and it hasn't been found. Maybe this will take care of that problem. What should I expect to pay..
Mobile TXV bulb Trane XE1000 Heat Pump? Does anyone have any idea why a tech would take out txv bulb from inside the air handler unit, and mount it outside the unit on the suction line, claiming that it would help repair a problem of the heat pump not Dehumidifiing? In this case I was told that the coil on the inside air handler was dry and it was not suppose to be. That placing the TXV bulb outside the air handler in a new location would fix that problem. If this bulb is to blame is it letting too much Freon get in? or not enough Freon getting in? There was mention about moving the bulb to a warmer spot, Does that restrict the amount of freeon? or increases the flow? Why would the suction line be considered a "warmer" spot? The txv bulb normally sits on the internal part of the suction line does it not?
Can a Heat Pump be used as A/C only with traditional system? I can get a free 2 yr old heat pump that matches with my existing tonnage Trane system. Can I install the heat pump and use it only as an A/C while still using my forced air natural gas system for heat? Never messed with a heat pump so just dont know this. Thanks.
Furnace and Heat pump question? Im thinking of replacing my furnace and AC with a Trane XL14i Heat pump along with a Trane xv80 Gas furnace. I was quoted a price of $8065.00 for both units including installation. First of all is this a good price? Am i really going to save any money Installing a heat pump and furnace or would it be wise to just replace my existing with another furnace and AC. Also i live in Kansas City and we do have quite a few days below freezing in the winter.
Heat pump will not turn off!? I had a Trane heat pump installed last year. This winter even though I was using mostly wood heat, I noticed my heat pump was running. My power bills were fairly expensive. Today, even when I had the entire system set to Off, the heat pump was running and then cycling in defrost, all to run again. When my thermostat is set at a higher temp than the house, it heats the house just fine. The only problem is that the pump just will not turn off shy of shutting it down at the switchbox. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Thank you!
How can I Clean out leaves etc from the inside of a Trane XE1200 Heat Pump? The unit has one side panel that can be removed, but it is mainly for electrical access and the entire interior 4 walls are horizontally lined with A/C tubing. The top has a large blower fan that removed the heat from the tubing. Can the top be unscrewed (it can) without the 4 side panels all falling away. If it can (without falling apart), a leaf blower (in reverse) could suck out all the leaves in the bottom. Thanks
Why do HVAC installers discourage you from installing a central dehumidifier? Humidity is over 60% in house. There are floor drains and sump pump in basement. House is 2 story with basement. Heat pump in basement. Tons of room to install equipment. Portable unit does not do the job, and it's noisy. Have a new HVAC heat pump Trane 16i 16 SEER. Mid Atlantic region weather. Keep windows closed all year.
What brand of air handler would be recomended? Outside unit is a ten year old Trane xl1200 heat pump. Indoor air handler has bitten the dust. Looking at one for 3.5 ton 13 Max SEER. So far I have check out Goodman, Amana, Trane, and Carrier. Just want to know what others think. Thanks
trane heat pumps? Why are my heat pumps not heating and the outside temp is only 50 degrees. No technician seems to be able to fix this problem.
Trane Central Heating and Air Conditioning Question? I have a large Trane Heat Pump in my home. My question is this, The thermostat is placed on the wall in the hallway directly under the air intake and the filter is located above in the ceiling. It seems like this is the coldest and draftiest place in the home because it is where the intake is drawing in the air. Wouldn't the system do a better job if I relocated the thermostat to a place where the air temperature is more constant? Thanks!
Why is might upstairs heat pump not keeping the upstairs below 80 F during the day? I have a Trane XE1000 Heat Pump. The upstairs unit runs constantly but will not get the house below 80 degrees during the day. The downstairs unit keeps the downstairs at a constant 75 degrees. The outside temp during the day has been averaging between 100 and 103 degrees. Why is the downstairs unit keeping up but the upstairs is having trouble? Is this normal with the extreme temps outside or should I call a service person? Or better yet, is there something I can look at myself? Thanks, -Bryan I think I will have the freon checked on the unit and go from there. Hopefully that is all that needs to be done. It appears everything is functioning properly, just not efficiently. I will also see about installing a solar vent for the attic. I think that is a win win no matter what. Thanks everybody for your help. -Bryan
What line of action should we take since our new home air conditioner is failing? Moved into our new construction home Jan '07. This was a custom build. End of Jan our Trane AC/Heat Pump secondary drain pan filled up and kicked off the kill switch. This has continued to happen EVERY month. AC subcontractor has been trying to make the thing right. Basically going thru their troubleshooting every 30 days. Still crapping out. Tonight was the 9th time. Twice in 2 days. Compressor went out yesterday and they got it going again. Tonight it started blowing hot. They arrived; magically starting blowing cold after doing nothing to the unit. My wife finally lost it, called AC owner and demanded to see a new AC in our home. We also contacted the builder and demanded that he make something happen. AC contractor 1st suggested going thru Trane support then said he'd call the local Trane rep to replace (who's been well aware of this and has been suggesting troubleshooting tips to AC guy thru this process). This thing has drug out long enough. What do we do? Legal? Wait out?
Can a Goodman Heat Pump be used with a Trane Air Handler? We have a TRANE 5 ton air handler, 2004 model #TWE060C15FD0. We want a heat pump on the system. Getting $7000 quotes for JUST a Trane HP (no ducting, but a few lines)! Can a Goodman heat pump be installed w/ a Trane air handler? I can get a Goodman 14 seer for about $2000 (and we'd install ourselves). Will this work, can the different models work together? If so, what model # Goodman would be most compatible? Just don't have $7K to invest into a heating system right now.... and I know that Trane is a better product :-) THANK YOU!!
What is the cost of new heat pump system? My old system need replacement. I am just wondering how much would it cost to replace the heat pump, air handlers, and thermostats including the labor cost. I would prefer a name brand products like Carrier, York or Trane. 2 ton unit is what I'm looking for...
How much does it cost to get a new heat pump? A high efficiency heat pump for a 1,067 sq foot house? My husband and I are buying first home. It's heat pump is from 1991 & I don't know how long it will last. We're thinking of what to offer. I want to know how much a heat pump runs on average. We looked at homedepot.com & trane.com and can't find prices anywhere! Thanks!
Heat pump defrost board? I have a Trane heat pump installed in Dec 2006. I have a service contract with the company that did the installation. The service guy came out last week to check the system. When he was outside looking over the heat pump a switch in the air handler inside started clicking on and off very rapidly and started to smell like burning wires. The tech came in and found a burned out switch in the air handler. I called the company and told the owner that his tech just burned out a switch. The tech said the switch burned out due to a defective defrost board in the heat pump. I think the tech didn't know what he was doing and caused the problem. The owner says there is nothing the tech could have done while outside to cause the switch inside to burn up if the defrost board was not bad in the first place. Did the tech cause the problem? or is the owner right?
Which Heat Pump Brand is best for my situation - Trane / York / Carrier / American Standard? I need it to be reliable for at least the next 15 yrs, because I plan to stay in my house for at least that long. Does anyone have any personal experience with any of these brands? Are any of these manufacturer's current product lines crap? Are any of them good or better than others? I need to have the heat pump and air handler replaced in my house. The current one is 20yrs old and it is not worth having it repaired vs buying a new replacement. I'm considering these brands as a replacement. Trane York American Standard Carrier One Note -- I'm only looking for opinions of new equipment! Please no posts about how long your old unit has lasted. Just because it lasted that long does not mean that their new stuff will. (I already have a York heat pump that's 20 years old, but I have no idea if their longevity and quality now is a good as it was in 1988.)
How can I tell if I have a one stage heat pump or a 2 stage heat pump? I have a Trane Model # TWV036B140A1. It has a cooling function as well as heat. It has an auxiliary/emergency heat setting as well. From some of the reading I am getting the feeling that having the auxiliary heat setting means this is a two stage. I want to get a new programmable thermostat and this is one of the key data points I need to resolve.
If my a.c. unit is low on freon would that give me higher humidy? I live in Indianapolis in a 8 yr. old 2 story home. The house is tight and the a.c. (Heat Pump/Trane) had just been serviced in the spring. When it runs it does not seem to stay on overly long. The coils and filter are clean. It seems to run as well as it has in past years, but I seem to have higher humidity in the house now. Is this a sign of low freon?
Can I use an air handler with a heat pump of different brand? I have a Whirlpool HVAC system, both air handler and heat pump are Whirlpool. The outdoor heat pump is giving us so much headace for the whole winter. We are considering replacing the whole heat pump but does not want to use Whirlpool anymore. Can I use a different brand (say Trane?) and keep the original air handler?
comfortmaker heat pump? Hi - I am thinking of replacing my current 26 year old Heat Pump with a Comformaker 13 SEER unit. What is your experience with this brand and do you know if it is made by one of the big players such as Trane/Lennox/Carrier etc as a budget brand. Thanks.
A/C, Heat pump question? I I have a Trane XL 1200 Ac / Heat pump with a variable speed air handler. It was 10 years old in January. It is starting to die as we speak, but will probably limp along for an other year or two. (I hope). Anyway, I live in a two story, approx. 2100 sq ft heated area home in Florida. What should I be looking at to replace my entire system (A/C unit / heat pump and air handler, less vent work)? When I had my house built, this was the top of the line I could get at the time. What would be a comparable system in today’s seer numbers and what is a fair and reasonable cost for parts and install of the unit, total??
heating pump and air central unit? I need to replace a 2 ton trane air unit. I have a 10 seer (goodman) blower. Will a Janitrol 13 seer heat pump, that goes outside the house, work properly without any problems related to the function of the blower and air unit? thank you.
What causes an odor to come from only 2 vents in a HVAC system in a house.? 16 Seer Trane heat pump installed 15 months ago. No odor until November 2005. Only in 2 vents. System has 2 speed fan that runs continuously. Only smell the odor when fan kicks into high speed. All vents were cleaned about 18 months ago. Installers said system was extremely clean. System has 4" thick filter (changed 3 times a year) and filters installed in all intakes(these are changed every month. Odor smells like sour mud. House is 2 story, no vents in attic. System is in basement. 2 smelly vents on the main floor at one end of a room. HELP ME! The smelly vents are in the Living Room in front of a sunny window (South side). When the new system was installed they cut the Plenum and installed a sleeve made of what looks like rubber. It is not aligned exactly. COuld this low spot be the problem? It is about 9" from the main vertical trunk. Has anyone else had this problem with a TRANE 16i Heat Pump? You can't see the pan under the coils. The vents are in the floor on the main level which is over a full basement. Keep the answers coming please. The drain line empties into a floor drain.
