Is this a good deal (Goodman Heat Pump) (Canadian prices)? Ok, so our house is about 50-55 y.o. and all the heating system has to be redone. We have an old furnace (its same age as house), our heat pump is 12 y.o., and our oil tank is also 50 y.o. A salesman from some company in Montreal came to visit us yesterday, looked at what we have and explained to us what he could offer. - Goodman Heat Pump (GSH14) 11,500$ - Furnace (ARUF-AEPT) (cant remember price, forgot paper at home) - new oil tank, new oil line 5000$ - other instalation costs and removal of old machinery, installation of 2 vents in the basement. (other specification which i noted down: filter HEPA-AHEPA Media-Amu, which apparently you just vaccum 2-3 times a year) Total: 18k +taxes = 21k at 7 3/4% on 10 years at TD bank (but we can pay off anytime, so we can look for a better deal at our bank) I am totally clueless but I suspect that the heat pump at 12k is a bit expensive! i was told that a new one would be about 5k, not 12k! anybody can help?

Is this a reasonable price for a new heat pump? The heat pump in my home is 22 years old and not working very well. I recently got an estimate from a reputable company for replacement and wanted to know if the estimate seems reasonable. The home is a 2 story, 1100 sq feet, fairly well insulated. The estimate was for a 2 ton, SEER 13 system complete with a new pad, new piping, new thermostat, and full installation. The full guaranteed cost is $4485. Does this sound like a reasonable cost?

Help decide on new Heat Pump? I am looking to purchase a new heat pump soon. If my finances don't allow me I will have to wait until I receive my income taxes in 2010. I'll just have to tough it out with window units for cooling until then. Thus far I have paid with labor included $160 on a new thermostat and a fan switch. My heat pump unit is about 10 years old and after todays fees and parts it is still not cooling. The tech who repaired it is a very good friend and very trustworthy. After repairing the above, we also needed some freon. He gave it a little, left for about an hour to go get the parts, and when he returned his gauge read zero on freon. He sprayed it down and we looked for bubbles but seen none, and heard no sound indicating a leak. He is coming back on Wednesday to determine where the leak is, using some kind of leak finder I imagine. I tend to worry and always jump to conclusions (thus thinking about a new unit). He would not steer us wrong, and is only trying to save us money. We are a low income family who just cannot afford a new unit at this time. We don't have good credit, so we would have to pay cash for a new unit. After looking at Sears.com I can find no prices on heat pumps. It just says call for in home consultation. I personally would like a brand new heat pump. You get the warranties and all that, and from what I have read they are more efficient than they were 10 years ago. My current unit is a Kenmore. It has been nearly problem free for 10 years. Last year was the first year we ever had to have a boost of freon. Maybe during the warranty, when they came and serviced it they might have added some. Now this year, two boosts of freon, a fan switch, a capacitor and a new thermostat, and like I said, still not ready to cool. He's got to find that leak. So, my first question is this, which brand do you recommend, Kenmore, Carrier, Trane or any other decent priced heat pump? I would like the absolute best, a name that is known, but remember we're a low income family. Second question - How much do heat pumps cost? I can't remember what we paid for this actual heat pump. When we got it we had no vents, duct work or anything like that. We even had to get a new breaker box. We had one of the older twist in type fuses. Third question - Would it be cheaper to just purchase the heat pump from somewhere like Lowe's and let my trusted friend install it? If so, how much would I actually be saving by doing that versus buying on from Sears? Say I purchase from Sears, I'm sure installations are free, but how much are the units? No prices are listed on Sears.com. I need any and all information that you can give me. I am really struggling with what to do. Last question - What can I be expecting to spend on Wednesday when he comes back to find the leak? I always help him do the work and he always knocks off half of what he charges anyone else. What expensive problems/parts could arise when finding that leak. What I mean is, where would the leak be that would end up costing me the most? I hope someone can take the time to help me on deciding. Oh yeah, what about this tax credit on new units?

Where can I buy a new transformer for my heat pump? I had a guy check out the heat pump and he says the transformer is fried. Adding Heat Pump? I have central air at my house and I wanted to add a heat pump for the winter to keep the house warm because of the price of oil is costly. I call a company they are telling me I need to increase my my wattage from 100 to 200 amp and I need to upgrage the electric outlet. They are chargin me $7000 do the the job. Intex saltwater chlorinator system / sand filter pump question? Hi I need some help! I'm buying an Intex UltraFrame 24x12 pool and have opted for a heat pump. The guy I'm buying the pool from has been very helpful up to now BUT: He says that the cartridge based filter pump isn't man enough for the job with the heat pump - ok, a sand based one would be better. I've found a Intex saltwater chlorinator system at very reasonable price. He's telling me that that this must be last years with an integrated filter and will be no good to use a with a sand filter/pump, and wants me to buy his 2008 model which is a standalone one (and of course to buy HIS pump) and twice the price. Looking at the saltwater system I've found (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=350030273900&Category=20733&_trksid=p3907.m29) it doesn't sound like the case at all - says "FILTER PUMP REQUIREMENT FLOW RATE 1900-11,300 lph" - the pump I'm looking at is about 5000 lph so ok. Besides, why would this years be twice the price WITHOUT an integral pump?! Ta! Just to clarify: what I need to know is this: is the saltwater system above going to be compatible with a 0.5hp sand filter pump (flow rate 5000lph), a heat pump and the pool I'm buying? I am going to buy Goodman ARUF042 standard. The price is $1500 installed. Is this a good price? I heard that Goodman may not be a good quality. I called other compaines and they bad mounthed the brand. I think the price is right for my budget.
