Goodman Heat Pump Knowledge Base
Can anybody tell me the difference between Goodman heat pump system vs. Trane heat pump system? I am in the process of upgrading my heat pump system. Goodman is less expensive (by $800 to $1000)... but is Trane worth the extra cost? I'll be installing 14SEER system. Goodman dealer tells me Trane is bad because it is made of aluminum and Goodman is made of Copper. However, Trane dealer tells me Goodman is a "garbage" and it will break down lot faster. Anybody have opinion?
goodman heat pump wiring help? I have a Goodman heat pump and can't find a wiring diagram to install a new thermostat. I have a Honeywell non-programmable digital thermostat that I want to install. I have a red, blue, green, white, orange, and yellow wires coming out of the wall.
Honeywell Thermostat with a Goodman Air Conditioner / Heat Pump How Do I Hook it Up???? I have a Honeywell Pro 4000 (TH4210D) thermostat with terminals labeled... E (emergency heat relay), Aux (auxiliary heat relay), Y (compressor contactor), G (fan relay), O (cool changeover valve), L (relay)*, R (L1 hot), B (heat changeover valve) and C (L2 common). *The L (relay) terminal is powered continuously when thermostat is set to Em Heat. The Honeywell guide also states to use either O or B terminals for changeover valve and install field jumper between E and Aux if there is no emergency heat relay. The Goodman 3 ton package unit with heat pump and 15kw heat strip has wires colored... Red (24v), Green (fan), Orange (Rev. valve), White (Heat 2nd), Brown (Heat 3rd), Yellow (cool), Blue (common). So, the main question is how do I make these connections up and what is the difference between the Auxiliary Heat Relay and the Emergency Heat Relay? Any and everyones help is greatly appreciated.
Goodman heat pump problems again.....read on..? I have an older Goodman package heat pump (model PH-030-1A ser # 9701048386) that I believe the compressor has overheated and gone out...I came home one day and the cooling fan on top was just barely turning and the compressor wand everything was HOT.....I replaced the cooling fan but the compressor doesnot seem to start and I get no heating or cooling... My question is should I see about having the compressor replaced and the unit recharged or am I just spending good money after bad... I have just a little over 1000 square feet to heat and cool but the only heat I can get out of this thing is from the emergency heat strips....Any suggestions would be appreciated...
Can a Goodman Heat Pump be used with a Trane Air Handler? We have a TRANE 5 ton air handler, 2004 model #TWE060C15FD0. We want a heat pump on the system. Getting $7000 quotes for JUST a Trane HP (no ducting, but a few lines)! Can a Goodman heat pump be installed w/ a Trane air handler? I can get a Goodman 14 seer for about $2000 (and we'd install ourselves). Will this work, can the different models work together? If so, what model # Goodman would be most compatible? Just don't have $7K to invest into a heating system right now.... and I know that Trane is a better product :-) THANK YOU!!
Is this a good deal (Goodman Heat Pump) (Canadian prices)? Ok, so our house is about 50-55 y.o. and all the heating system has to be redone. We have an old furnace (its same age as house), our heat pump is 12 y.o., and our oil tank is also 50 y.o. A salesman from some company in Montreal came to visit us yesterday, looked at what we have and explained to us what he could offer. - Goodman Heat Pump (GSH14) 11,500$ - Furnace (ARUF-AEPT) (cant remember price, forgot paper at home) - new oil tank, new oil line 5000$ - other instalation costs and removal of old machinery, installation of 2 vents in the basement. (other specification which i noted down: filter HEPA-AHEPA Media-Amu, which apparently you just vaccum 2-3 times a year) Total: 18k +taxes = 21k at 7 3/4% on 10 years at TD bank (but we can pay off anytime, so we can look for a better deal at our bank) I am totally clueless but I suspect that the heat pump at 12k is a bit expensive! i was told that a new one would be about 5k, not 12k! anybody can help?
Goodman Heat Pump problem..? My heat pump has kicked the beaker in the box and everytime I try and flip it it just trips again. i have a split system i guess, house is new to me and wasnt explained how it works but the backuo system is functioning, any ideas what the problem could be?? Also I just checked model number and even with breaker tripped outside unit is making a wierd humming noise. Cut themostats off and it still kicks breaker, plus furnance under house was running with themo cut off and it cooked the house to like 85 degrees and its 55 outside.Had to turn other breaker off to stop it running also.System is from 2001.Thanks to all for answers,I'm gonna call AC co. just want an idea so I dont get drilled.
How much does it cost to install a heat pump? I purchased a Goodman 2 ton heat pump for my 800 square foot home. I was just curious if anyone would know how much I should expect to pay for someone to hook it up. I am going to install the ductwork myself. If anyone could explain to me how to install it or if there are any instructions any where explaining that would be great. There were no instructions with it. I assumed there would be.
Home Heating Options Help? Help! I have a 2 story, 1000 sq ft home in western PA. We need insulation, better insulated windows, and a cheaper heating source than Saudi Home Heating Oil. I was thinking at first getting the walls with blown in insulation and then possibly a 2.5 ton heat pump with an electric Air Handler. I want to get away from Saudi oil just out of principle. My options are electric or Nat Gas. What is the best furnance options? Any ideas? At first we were not going to insulate but I guess we will do this first. There just is never enough money to go around. So does anyone have good feedback or poor feedback on Goodman, Amana, Lennox, Trane, etc...? Thanks for your time and consideration
Goodman Heap Pump Hums? The compressor (outside unit) of my six year old goodman heat pump hums while the unit is off. That is the heat pump is energized but not called to run by the thermostat. What could cause this noise?
How do I wire up a 24 volt Isolation relay to get my electric ? heaters to turn on in my air handler, during the heat pump defrost mode? I just replaced my closet air handler, from a Goodman to a Payne and tied it into an 10 year old Goodman Heatpump. Everything works fine but my electric heaters do not come on when the heat pump goes into defrost. I am using the original Maple Chase 2 heat & 2 cool thermostat and my heat and cooling temps are good. The only problem is that the electric heat does not come on when the out door unit goes into defrost. However, if I manually switch the thermostat into emergency heat from the thermostat the electric heat works. At this point, I was told that I needed a 24 volt Isolation (double pole / double throw) relay. This makes sense but I am not sure how to wire it up. During the heating mode, the reversing valve is NOT energized. But in the cooling mode and (defrost) it is. So, I was thinking of utilizing the "O" terminal coming from the defrost board from the out door unit and use it to power up my relay to energize my electric heat relays during defrost. But the problem with that is how do I wire that to an isolation relay and how do I make it bypass the electric heaters relay(s) during a call for cooling since my "O" terminal> reversing valve will then be energized?
I just got a goodman air conditioner heat pump put into my house less than a year ago.? The AC worked for a little while but now I am warm in my own house and the AC runs all day long. The thermostat is on 75 and my house is 82 degrees. What can I do? What could it be? I called a Goodman technician and he said the AC is working properly. That can't be true since the AC doesn't go above 81 during the day. Any suggestions of what could it be so I when I call the guy again I can give him a clear picture of my problem. Any suggestions?
Need help/suggestions for a new AC for our house? Our evaporator coil on our AC went out last year on our 8-yr old Bryant. Rather than fix, we're going to replace the unit. It's a 3.5ton gaspack. We also have a dual-zone system (durozone brand), however it's flawed. We have about 1500sqft downstairs and 300 in a bonus room above the garage. The bonus room isn't big enough to warrant it's own unit/heat pump, correct? The problem is the upstairs only comes on when the downstairs is off. Meaning we often have to crank the downstairs to the extreme to get any flow upstairs. Shouldn't they both be able to come on at the same time (both cool or both heat)? Any recommendations on units? I have a sour taste for Bryant, however haven't ruled them out. We got a $4400ish quote for a Bryant, $3800ish for Goodman, and $5200+ for some higher ends. This assumes we keep our current dual-zone. It's $1500ish more to replace it. Can it be fixed? No one around here has used durozone units. We don't want to break the bank...thanks!!
anyone know why my heat pump stays runnning? I have a goodman 4 ton heat pump a year old today the pump decided to keep running i have it set at 72 but when i came home the house was at 63 degrees and still dropping i turned the unit to off and the heater kicked on and started running at a nonstop pace i shut the whole unit down all electricity and tried to reset it but when i turned it back on the samme thing occured anyone have any ideas please answer or feel free to email me @ cmann70726@yahoo.com thanks...........Chris also i just changed the thermostat today and no luck .........chris

Goodman 3 ton heat pump, made buzzing noise after cycle and had a release of pressure? Is this normal. The unit still appears to be heating. I read this could be part of the defrost mode. I am worried because I just had it installed last week and the A/C guy was having a hard time gettting the charge right. After the buzzing noise the A/C made a loud pressure release noise and a lot of steam/smoke/.....came out of the top. I made the unit turn on again and it seemed to work ok. Is this normal or a big deal? Would hate to blow my new compressor it is an R22 unit.
Looking for a good ac unit for my condo.? I have been checking around for a ac unit for my home. I have been quopted anywhere from 3600-600 for my system. I am going to go with the 3600 dollar guys, good reviews on the company and seems like a good price, i have a electric furnace, and will be upgrading to a heat pump.this company is offering grandaire and goodman, and carrier, grandaire is cheaper. if you know anything aboput grandaire, ac units please let me know if it's good or not.
My heat pump is dying. I would like to replace it, but do not know the first thing about what to get. My boy friend says I should get central air...but isn't that just the a/c? I mean, if the a/c is going out...then eventually the heat portion of the heat pump is also going to go out and then I'll be replacing the heat pump anyway or adding a furnace. I need some suggestions. Oh yeah, and I have a small budget. I found this pump...how much would it cost for an install (average)? I mean, it would be a replacement with no duct work or anything like that. http://www.smarterwayinc.com/goodman_heat_pump/ghpss25t13s.asp I live in Charlotte, NC and the condo is almost 1300 square feet. oh yeah, the condo is 11 years old with original a/c - heating unit..and the builder is known as the 'cheapest' in town. is 10 years the average life of a 'el cheapo' heat pump? when i bought the condo, there were issues and somehow it passed inspection...within 3 weeks of living there a puddle of water flooded my ceiling from the upstairs unit and ruined my ceiling. so, right out the gate I knew we had issues but no one cared. home inspector said it was fine when he was there and any changes were done by us! anyway, for three years straight the a/c doesn't work as soon ass it gets hot out , it runs often and cools very little. the first tech (year 1) replaced the freon, the second tech (last year) replaced the coil, some kind of switch and also replaced the freon and performed a tune up...it was costly. now this year, again it doesn't work. this time the inside portion is frozen like a block of ice. the boyfriend says it looks like the switch is going out again. the coil is frozen. i do not want to waste any more $$ on costly repairs that do not work.
Electric furnace blows cold air only when it gets below 0 outside!? This is strange.... my just over 1 year old Goodman air handler/central air/heat pump works great until it gets below 0 outside (when you need it the most)! It will then only blow cool or barely warm air when it's on auto heat. When I put the thermostat on AUX heat, it runs for a few minutes and then blows the breaker. The temperature at this point doesn't stay steady at any setting, it just continues to drop. Sometimes the heat pump is running when this happens and the thermostat is showing that the aux heat is on. When it's above 0 the aux heat seems to work fine, etc. I'm thinking that a setting needs adjusted somewhere, but don't know where. Any ideas?
Does it sound as if my home builder ripped me off? We had a home built new in 2004. We moved in August of that year. This week our central A/C unit stopped working correctly, so we called our repair company. The guy that came out said their was a huge leak in the system, and he showed me a hole on the outside unit coils. He said he could not repair the unit, and that we would have to purchase a new one. He also stated this unit was manufactured in 1996. That would mean our builder either used an old unit, or old stock. I am a little confused since four years seems like a very short life for even a cheap quality unit. Should I trust the repair company's word, and look into purchasing a new one? Or should I try to find a way to have this unit fixed. He quoted me at $3500 for installing a new unit. By the way it is a Goodman unit with a heater, not a heat pump. We live in Arizona, so going into summer without air conditioning is not really an option here, especially since we have three dogs. The warranty for our home covers the structure for 10 years, and everything else for 2 years. We had an option to purchase an extended warranty for the home, but did not. I am going to call back the repair company, and ask for documentation of what they stated to us regarding the age of the unit.
Any one know where I can find a diagram ? I am trying to wire a Goodman PH-030-1A heat pump to a Totaline P274-0200 thermostat and I need the wiring schematic....can anyone help me???? I sure would appreciate the help....Thanx in advance
Heat Pump a Little Larger then my Furnace, Ok, or Big Problem? Please Help!? I have recently gotten a really good deal on a Brand New 2.5 ton Goodman Heat pump. My house is 1500 square feet and is Brand New. The coil in my furnace is 2TEC3F24B1000AA. Can my system handle a 2.5 Ton heat pump? I live in oregon so the AC is going to only really be used in the summer months when it is hot! (really it only maybe hits 100 a few days of the year, the rest of the summer it is in the mid to upper 80's) the other 9 months of the year the heat will be used. A HVAC guy stopped by and said it would be an additional 100 bucks for a new "valve" or roughly $400 for a new coil. I have already extended my limits with so thus far and really dont want to dump more money into something that realistically only be used rarely (well the air conditioning portion) Any advice will be helpful. Thanks Tony- Thanks, your a big help, how much should i be looking at for a new expansion valve? I paid 600 bucks for a Brand New GoodMan 2.5 Ton Heat Pump. Still on a crate.
What brand of air handler would be recomended? Outside unit is a ten year old Trane xl1200 heat pump. Indoor air handler has bitten the dust. Looking at one for 3.5 ton 13 Max SEER. So far I have check out Goodman, Amana, Trane, and Carrier. Just want to know what others think. Thanks
When will the R22 be completely phased out? I've had numerous AC companies out to give quotes on new units. House is all electric and I'll be going with a heat pump. Looking at R410a units instead of R22. Have heard conflicting reports as to when R22 will be phased out. Also, had quotes on Amana, Bryant, Trane and Tappan. I know Goodman and Amana are basically the same company (with Amana being the higher end unit). How does Tappan compare?
I need an new A/C Heat Pump? I need to replace my 14 year old unit (Goodman). Had good luck with it only replaced the coils. I live in Florida (hot and humidity). The ones were considering is (15 seer 3 1/2 ton) Carrier, Lennox Elite Series, Goodman, and Rheem. Some of the models have varible speed and some don't. Were not sure on the varible speed do we need one with it to save on the bills? .Which brand will give me the best service?
New heat pump, old air handler.....bad? Ok, late last summer I had to have my heat pump/conderser replaced as the 20 year old Carrier unit finally died. My home warranty company covered the replacement but install a Goodman. I have come to find out now that Goodmans are not necessarily the best brand and are not all that efficent when the outside temp gets above 100 (which never happens here in AZ...lol). Anyways, I still have the old evap coil/air handler and I am wondering if that is a problem. During the summer months it is tough to keep the house cool at all. Would replacing the air handler with a matching unit be worth the cash or no?
Heat pump thermostat installation....? I am trying to install a used heat pump in my home and am not sure if I can use a regular thermostat or if it has to be one for a heat pump specifically.. I am installing a Goodman Mfg. Co. spit system heat pump Model # PH030-1a. Does any one Know if this is a good unit for a 900 square foot home ???? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated
Another heat pump question......? Is there a web site I can go to to see a wiring diagram on a Goodman model # PH-030-1A heat pump...I need as much info I can get on this unit as I will be installing it in my home....Any info will be appreciated !!!
Heat Pump thermostat upgrade now air wont work!? I have a goodman 3.5 ton heat pump system, and my friend bought me a digital thermostat for my birthday and TRIED to install it for me. He obviously didnt do it right because when he did do it, it just ran constantly and didnt want to shut off whenever it got to the desired temperature. So he rewired it and the problem seemed to be solved, when i got home from work, i then realized my AC was not working at all. I checked the wires, have bought a new 80$ Honeywell digital thermostat made for heat pump systems. I have checked the transformer at the unit, i can push in on the little relay that it has and it will turn on when i push that little relay thingy in (friend talked me through it over the phone) and it has power to the wires, and to the motherboard, and everything, WHY WONT IT COME ON! HELP ME PLEASE? Is it possible its hooked up wrong. These are my wire colors. Yellow-Red-Blue-Green-White-Brown-Orange-Black(which was never hookedup to anything) Do i need to install the jumper? sorry it cut off- on the wires.. Orange, and then black was never hooked up into anything
heating pump and air central unit? I need to replace a 2 ton trane air unit. I have a 10 seer (goodman) blower. Will a Janitrol 13 seer heat pump, that goes outside the house, work properly without any problems related to the function of the blower and air unit? thank you.
split heat pump noise when very cold? Hi We have a Goodman 92% furnace with 12 SEER split heat pump. (copied this directly from invoice). It is approx. 2 years old. Last night it got very cold for our area (11 degrees) and the heat pump has been making a grinding/humming noise when it shuts down, before the whooshing sound. The grinding/humming noise only lasts a few seconds. Usually it just makes a whooshing noise when it cycles off. The heat is working normally, ie, the house is staying warm. I checked the unit outside to see if there was something visibly wrong--all I noticed was a tiny amount of ice on the very bottom, inside the unit. What's going on? Is the new noise because the gas is coming on? Should I call a professional? Thanks for the replies so far. It has warmed up and the unit is no longer making the noise. I did change the filter as recommended and the vents are open. Thanks again for the help.
Heat pump blowing fuses? I have a 5 year old goodman heatpump with a 15 year old furnace. For the last 6 months we've been having to replace the 30 amp fuses outside approx. 4 times a month. It always seem to blow just when we turn the temp. up. We replaced the thermostat in the house, that didn't help. When the fuse is replaced, the system works great. Any ideas? I don't know anything about heating systems...Somebody did mention that it could be a short in the compressor. How would I diagnose that? Any advice would be helpful...
