Heat Pump ?? Does anyone else's heat pump kick off and on during the furnace cycle? Does it sometimes sound like it is pulling too much electricity?
Heat pump? How do I know if I have a heat pump or not?
How is the heat pump supposed to work? I live in a 1996 Double wide mobile home. We have the A/C pump outside and the furnace is inside. I was just wondering does anyone know is the A/C (outside unit) only supposed to come on when the A/C is on or is it supposed to work when the heat is on too? I was thinking the furnace (inside) heat strips heat the house and the A/C unit (outside) cools it but I just wanted to make sure. My heat is working fine but the past 2 months my electric bill has been outragous!!!! We are using way more kilowatts than this time last year and it's warmer this year. The heater seems to be functioning properly though. Just thought I'd see what anyone thinks about this. Thanks for reading :-)
Heat Pump having frost on it and blowing cold air? I have a new york heat pump. the other night the coils are so frosted up that the heat pump is blowing cold air i keep it running for 40min and it is working Every time i get a heat pump this happens. What should i do? Bobby S.
How much does it cost to install a heat pump to replace a 36-year old HVAC system for a 3-bedroom house? The existing system uses natural gas for heat and a split indoor/outdoor system for the A/C. The new system would use a heat pump, whose outdoor coil should be underground to avoid being affected by freezing air in winter. The heat pump should be efficient enough to not need any secondary heating system, but just use the heat pump all the time, even on the coldest days, which should be possible because of the underground coil.
How can the compressor on my heat pump be blown if it still heats the house.? It heats well, I turned it on for half an hour last night to take the chill off the house. But today when I tried to turn on the air coditioner, it just hummed, would not switch on. The furnace repair men tell me I need a new heat pump, that the compressor is dead. If it still heats the house, can it really be dead, or are they just trying to sell me a new heat pump. Thank You.
Can you replace a Daikan heat pump condensing outdoor unit with a furnace and AC unit? We have a 2 story rental house with a furnace upstairs but the basement is heated with a Daikan heat pump condensing outdoor unit that feeds 4 interior basement units. The repair company can't find a replacement compressor, so to get it fixed it would cost $12,000. We're trying to figure out if it would be cheaper to install a furnace/AC in the basement instead. Any ideas?
How do I tell the difference between an electric heat pump and a gas pack? According to my landlord and the previous tenants of my house, we have electric heat and a gas water heater. My gas bill is so high, the gas company says our heat has to be gas. All I see outside is an electric heat pump. No furnace inside. Central air and heat. $400 gas bill. Landlords are sure the heat is electric. How to know for sure?
How effective is a water to air heat pump setup for cooling? I plan to bury heat pump coils and use a small / medium motorcycle radiator and fan to cool a room in my house. This is simply a proof of concept and a fun project for me just wondering how big the radiator should be, pump flow and fan cfm.
How to calculate energy savings of new heat pump? I realize that there many variables, but is there a way to figure out approximate energy savings (10, 30, or 50%) of replacing my 11-year old 10 SEER heat pump with a more modern one? I live in the DC metro area in 2500 sq foot house.. Electricity is the only source of heat and AC. Thanks!
Is a heat pump as efficient as centrail air conditioning? We live in Missouri and have an AC unit and furnace - we're considering a heat pump unit instead - the house is approx. 2500 sq. feet with a main living level and basement. Will we be able to keep the house comfortable - around 75 degrees all year - with the heat pump?
Can I use an air handler with a heat pump of different brand? I have a Whirlpool HVAC system, both air handler and heat pump are Whirlpool. The outdoor heat pump is giving us so much headace for the whole winter. We are considering replacing the whole heat pump but does not want to use Whirlpool anymore. Can I use a different brand (say Trane?) and keep the original air handler?
Why do I have cold water in the shower when my heat pump is on? I am in a rental condo in Atlanta with a heat pump (new technology for me). Every year in the fall I struggle with sharing hot water with my shower and the heat pump. The landlord said the heat pump is configured permanently to share hot water as a cost savings. Is this really the case or do you think something is wrong with the system? How can I diagnose problems with the hot water/heat pump system? Short of always turning the thermostat off prior to my shower, what can I do?
How long can I expect my Rheem heat pump/air conditioner to last for my home? This is a two-part question: 1) I don't know the first thing about air conditioning units, but a friend of mine told me residential air conditioners only last a maximum of 10-12 years. This seems like a pretty short lifespan for such an expensive piece of equipment. Is he correct? 2) Also, is the heat pump a separate unit from the air conditioner?
Our neighbors have a heat pump that has a very loud ringing sound when it is on. What could be wrong with it? About 3 weeks ago we started to hear a very loud and annoying ringing sound coming from our neighbor's house. My husband determined that it was coming from the heat pump when the air conditioning is running. We contacted them, but we have not received a response. It would be helpful to know what might be causing the problem before we try contacting them again. We have lived here 18 years and this sound has never occurred before, and it wakes us up during the night. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
What have you heard about the Amana 13seer 3Ton heat pump? We had two different companies come out and look at our unit and we need a new one. Hobson Air the Comfort Experts came out and did all the measuring and sizing and that is what they want to put in. However I dont know anthing about the brands of the company. So has anyone worked with Comfort Experts Hobson Heating and Air? Or has anyone purchased a amana heat pump and have a review. I live in texas and the heat pumps are the way to go due to the climate.
How much does it cost to install a heat pump? I purchased a Goodman 2 ton heat pump for my 800 square foot home. I was just curious if anyone would know how much I should expect to pay for someone to hook it up. I am going to install the ductwork myself. If anyone could explain to me how to install it or if there are any instructions any where explaining that would be great. There were no instructions with it. I assumed there would be.
Is my heat pump a lemon or just bad luck? I recently bought a heat pump from a friend who used less than a year. I had it installed by a friend in the fall but spent $800 last week for values and to reposition the unit. Three days later my compressor goes bad. Shoulda compressor go bad on a fairly new unit? Also do I replace compressor or just get a new system at this point?
Is it normal for my heat pump to release pressure every 10-15 minutes when running? My heat pump compressor runs quite a bit, which makes sense since it's a little chilly outside. I've noticed that the compressor releases pressure every 10 to 15 minutes when the unit is running. is this normal? I did some searching on the noise I'm hearing (a loud groan and something metal grinding to a halt), and the most popular result is the internal relief valve. Some say it's normal, some say it's bad, and I can't find any conclusive answer. My landlord has a guy who is working on it, but I don't trust him either. (He said it's normal for the emergency heat to run 80% of the time in the winter).
What are the pros and cons of a central air w/ heat pump? We live in north east PA and just bought a 30yr old ranch style home that has a central air system that will be in need of updating, maybe not this year, but next. Currently the house has baseboard electric heating and it was suggested we update a new central air system to a unit with a heat pump. It seems like people either love them or hate them and I just wanted to get some more opinions. I am looking for cost effectiveness as well as comfort. Personally, I like a moderate climate, neither too hot nor too cold so some say this would be perfect. My father thinks we have too extreme of a climate in the summer and winter for a heat pump to provide either adequate heating or cooling. We are looking for some more opinions/ideas, please.
How much for a heat pump including installation? I live in Georgia and was quoted $2700.00 for the price of a new 1 1/2 ton heat pump to be installed. This is the total price. Is this reasonable. It is just for the upstairs of our house. Our total square footage is about 1800. Thanks
On a split unit heat pump, is the fan on the outside unit supposed to turn? I have been paranoid about my heat pump since I bought my house a year and a half ago. When warmer weather came, I switched the thermostat from heat to cool. Air comes out of my vents and the thermostat does kick off when the temprature reaches the marked level, but my house does not get cool. What generally happens is the unit (in the attic) runs until it gets dark, outside cools down, and the temp. inside then cools. The ouside unit doesn't seem to work at all. It has been so long since I used it last year I don't remember if that was what it did last year. Any ideas before I spend $$$ getting someone out to look at it?
What temp to keep heat pump at? I have a home I only use on weekends. which has a fairly modern heat pump. I have heard that I should keep the temp the same during the week when I am not there as on weekends as this would be more energy efficient since the emergency heat would not be needed. Up til now I have been dropping the temp to 55 degrees during the week and then bringing it up when I arrive on the weekend. I am located in the Carolinas where it does really cool off during the winter. Which do you think uses less energy?
Why does our emergency heat controlled by a heat pump keep blowing the fuse? It has been so cold that we have been using the emergency heat on our heat pump/central air system but it keeps blowing the fuse. We have to keep going down cellar and switching it back over until it stays and then a few hours later it does it again. Why would it keep doing this and what can we do to stop it?
does the compressor run when my heat pump is in heating mode? I have a brand new Amana seer 16 heat pump system. When the heat kicks on the air handler seems to be just circulating air. It doesn't even blow a little warm. The compressor outside does not kick on at all in heat mode and within a minute or so the thermostat flashes AUX HEAT the fan starts moving air faster then the air warms a little. Shouldn't the compressor turn on in heat mode?
Do I need to have my heat pump serviced? I pay the power company about less than $10.00 a month in case my heat pump brakes and they will fix or replace it. Do I still need to get it serviced and how often?
Why is a heat pump bad in Southern California? I like the idea of replacing my indoor furnace and outdoor AC unit with a heat pump, but when I call AC companies for an estimate, everyone recommends against it. They say it won't be as efficient. Why not?
Which of the following statements describes how a heat pump works? Please answer A,B,C, or D thanks :] A.A heat pump decompresses gas to warm air and compresses gas to cool air. B.A heat pump compresses gas to warm air and decompresses gas to cool air. C.A heat pump decompresses gas to warm and cool air. D.A heat pump compresses gas to warm and cool air.
Will we have to replace the air conditioning unit if we remove the heat pump? We currently have an air to air heat pump. We would like to replace it with a propane furnance. If we do so will we have to replace the air conditioning unit as well? From what I understand, the air to air heat pump utilizes the air conditioning unit to run. Will our current air conditioning unit still work independently from the heat pump? What changes to the unit will need to be made, if any?
why doesnt my heat pump come on when asked by thermostat? My heat pump will not come on, compressor or the fan. I do not have 24 volts on contactor but there is 24v on red wire on control board. i can manually push the contactor in and it will run. I replaced the board about 2 weeks ago because the fan was running in defrost mode, after that it ran fine until 2 nights ago. I have a nordyne unit. could it be another bad board?
